So. You just want to build a website, dang it. Does it really have to be so hard?

Well, the short answer is no, it doesn’t have to be so hard. The long answer is, if you don’t know what you’re doing, you have no idea what any of it means, you don’t know any code or any technical language, you don’t know jack about design, and you hate every aspect of all of these things, then yes, it can be really hard.

And don’t let anyone tell you differently, because you’re going to be SUPER pissed when you find out the truth and you’re left dangling by your short and curlies.

But, if you can approach building a website with an open mind, a curiosity and excitement that you’re doing something amazing that can bring in money doing what you love, then it can be a LOT of fun. And did I mention it can bring in money doing what you love?

Now, I already have a class – The Passport – that teaches you how to build a website, create obsess-worthy content, and engaging marketing copy. But some people are already great communicators and marketers, and/or already have good content, so they just need to overcome the technical aspect.

That’s what this class is all about. Just the nerdy stuff.

With this course, I’ve done everything in my power to cover all the possible options you might want in a starter website, and yet still be able to accomplish your desires without learning an ounce of code (that includes no CSS!). But there are no perfect solutions. I can promise that you WILL have a professional, great-looking website that does all you need it to do, and you will have done it all yourself.

However I’m not in the business of luring you in by glossing over (or leaving out) things you might not want to hear about building a website. You may not get every design tweak you could ever dream of: for that you would need to learn code (or pay someone until the end of time to code your site for you).

But if you don’t want to pay someone to build your site for you or learn code (and I totally understand if you don’t), I can help you create something pretty fabulous even so.

Which one do you choose?

So what does this class include? And why on earth should you want to take it?

First session:

This is probably THE most important step in site development. It is from this stage from which everything else flows, so we want to get it right from the beginning. In this session you will:

  • decide what your goals for the site are
  • determine what functionalities are required in order to achieve your goals
  • design a home page layout that will best induce your desired result
  • establish what secondary pages you will need to support your overall site intentions
  • commit to a domain name

Everything we do next will stem from what is decided here in the planning stage. How the site is built and where content will be displayed will all grow from the seeds we plant here. Clarity is key!

Second session:

Now we’re going to start developing the framework for the site. In this class, I teach WordPress, which is one of the most user-friendly, free website building systems available today . We will:

  • set up your domain and hosting (if you don’t already have it)
  • install WordPress on your hosting server, complete site settings
  • install theme and fill out element options based on information collected in the planning stage
  • style the framework of the site: choose fonts, colors, assign default page layouts, headers, etc.

This is when things start to get fun. When this stage is complete, you will be able to see your site online, even though no content will exist yet. But you will be able to visualize what it will ultimately look like – and you will have done it!

Third session:

Here is where you will start adding your content. Ideally, you will have your content ready, as building pages around non-existing content makes for lots of potential changes down the road. However, it is not impossible.

So if you don’t have content ready, we will use dummy text to flesh out your pages until you have content to add, but understand that when the class is over, you are on your own with putting your real content in the pages. But even with dummy content, you will be able to see your website in its full glory, while you’re still polishing your scripts. In this session you will:

  • decide layouts for individual pages and the blog
  • learn the page builder system for content module additions
  • learn default WordPress content builder for basic blog posts and pages
  • gain understanding of how to manage images
  • discover locations to obtain images
  • basic education on free image editing tools
• go over social media sharing options

There is a lot to learn in this session. While there will not be time to go through absolutely everything the theme or WordPress can do, you will have a basic understanding of how all the most essential elements work so that when we are not in session you can build the rest of your site on your own. It will be very important that you work on your site in between sessions, as it can be very easy to forget what you have learned when I am not there to ask questions. Practice makes perfect!

Fourth session:

This is where we add in the custom functionality that you need for your specific site goals, including a means to accept monetary payments online. Plugins are separate pieces of code unique to particular functionality, like event calendars, booking appointments, email subscriptions, online payments, and/or extra security, among other possibilities. Very important stuff. In this session we will:

  • review the functionality requirements from session 1
  • determine which plugins will fit your functionality needs best
  • acquire and install said plugins, and set all options
  • if taking payments through your site, set up Paypal to accept money, and create payment buttons (Paypal is by far the easiest payment system to work with, and I’m assuming you have no other payment options set up already)

We’re in the last stage of your site set up! By now you will have the site up and looking great, and all that is left is adding the icing on the proverbial cake. When this is complete, your site will be ready to go live!

So what happens next?

If all this sounds good to you, and you’re ready to take on the challenges of building and being responsible for your own money-making website, then let’s get started! This is an exciting time!

In order to make sure this course is for you, and that we are a good fit together, we will have a short introductory Skype call to go over the details. If you decide the program is not a fit for you, then there is no obligation to you, no questions asked.

This four-part course is one on one, meaning you’re the only person in the class. You have my undivided attention during this time.

It’s all about you, baby. No one else.

Reminder: this course is intense, and there is a fair bit of technical stuff to learn. This course is not for the tired or uncommitted, or for folks who get pissed off the first moment something doesn’t go as smoothly as they think it should. Building a website is like building a house, so be prepared. But in this course I will be holding your hand all the way through it, and at the end of it, you’re going to have an awesome website to brag about, that YOU built, and that YOU can manage well into the future. Therefore, the investment for this course is

BONUS: All sessions will be screen recorded, so at the end of each session, I will send you a video of the class we just had. This will provide you the ability always to have a video tutorial of exactly what we did in class for your review later. Whoo hoo!

So get pumped! You’re finally going to have a decent website you can manage on your own! To move forward, please book your intro session by clicking below:
